Both CBR Extreme and Escape are unique in providing all tyres deflated performance on the standard single piece drop-centre wheel and both types have proven ‘J’ Turn and evasive driving capability, with one or all tyres deflated.
CBR Extreme

CBR Extreme has exceeded 251km runflat – independently certified by IDIADA at its proving ground Spain, also 258 km at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, UK. In both cases the wheels, tyres and runflat inserts were performing effectively at the end of these trials, which were stopped once a 250 km objective had been reached.
At a DVD (Defence industry exhibition, Millbrook Proving Ground) a laden Toyota Land Cruiser was demonstrated with all tyres flat on the off-road circuit for over 8 hours during the two day exhibition, with interested parties experiencing all-tyres-down runflat around the circuit. The demonstrations were carried out on just one set of deflated tyres and witnessed by MoD and other observers.
In addition to extensive in house and third-party testing, CBR Extreme has undergone 24 months in-service military trials, been signed off and is now in use with a Scandinavian military force.
Independent ballistic trials on CBR Extreme have also been signed off, as per Finabel.
CBR Extreme differs from CBR Escape in that it includes an outer friction reducing component which extends runflat distances. Both products include sealed lubrication systems.

Escape has been proven effectively through ‘J’ Turn and evasive driving capabilities with 1, 2, 3 and 4 tyres deflated.
This lightweight CBR system has been proven at high speed, with one of all tyres deflated, with effective control and cornering capabilities. Tested and proven at speeds up to 120 kph (75mph) with 4 tyres deflated and 145 kph (90 mph) with 1 tyre deflated.
Independent ballistic trials on CBR Extreme have also been signed off, as per Finabel.
CBR Escape is officially rated at 50km plus, at 50kph, although, depending on vehicle weight and road/track conditions can perform at higher speeds at similar or greater distances.
CBR Escape does not include the outer friction reducing component, making the runflat lighter than Extreme. It’s lubrication system, held internally within its cantilever construction, is sealed and only releases lubricant when in runflat operation.
Note that performance will always be affected, increased or diminished, depending on many factors including; vehicle weight, road/track conditions, age and condition of tyre, cause of deflation and other factors.
To date no runflat insert for the single piece wheel includes beadlock, meaning that before CBR this category of insert has been accepted as a basic flat tyre support system, endorsed by the industry finding it necessary to use two-piece or specialist wheels that can carry inserts with integrated beadlock for best performance; better traction and steering control and runflat with more than 2 tyres deflated.
CBR technology brings full double sided beadlock force to the single piece wheel plus new technology that extends distances, provides shock absorption, reduces unsprung weight and many other improvements over the traditional expectations for runflat capability.
New CBR technology brings improved performance provided over any other insert type, whether on single or two-piece wheels.

This is where PAS 301 Certification was carried out on CBR ExtremePAS 301 is a BSI automotive industry test method for a civilian armoured vehicle (CAV) to assess capabilities for, acceleration, maximum speed, through gear acceleration, handling, braking, traction and run flat.
This test forms section 9 of the complete PAS test for motor manufacturers and although it does not include off-road aspects is significantly tougher than any current Finabel test and includes sustained maximum speed handling requirements.
CBR Extreme passed these tests with 100% success. After tests were completed the tyres were cut open to expose the tested runflats.
These results and findings following the tests were witnessed by test engineers from Millbrook / UTAC CERAM and are included in their official test report.
Finabel tests are quite ‘old’ standards conceived around runflat inserts that did not incorporate beadlock on the single piece wheel, i.e. current state-of-the-art and, before CBR was introduced.
Vehicles could/cannot perform adequately with these runflats if both wheels on a driven axle were deflated – no traction, or if both deflated on a steering axle – no steering, hence the required standard required only deflated tyres on opposite corners.
Furthermore, these pre CBR runflats could/can only perform at low speeds, hence the very low speed requirements of the Finabel tests.
This standard clearly is inadequate to cover an ambush scenario.
CBR Escape
Private testing has demonstrated that both Extreme and Escape can exceed their Finabel tests at twice the Finabel speed requirements if 2 tyres are deflated on opposite corners.
Runflat distance and speed cannot be guaranteed in every circumstance (applies to all runflat inserts) and will be affected by many factors including; vehicle weight, road/track conditions, ambient and road temperature, age of tyre and the extent of damage to the tyre that caused the deflation.
