Old technology beadlock systems made from rubber in order to cater for varying tyre bead thicknesses have a fixed width, which is a compromise, providing good beadlock with thick beads but reduced beadlock with thin beads.
The combination of a relatively heavy rubber material, with a fixed width which provides at best a variable beadlock lateral force, was not an acceptable compromise in the design brief for Runflat CBR.
Instead, a new flexible cantilever design was developed to provide strong lateral beadlock force when tightened on to the wheel. This force increases with vehicle weight when running flat, part of CBR’s “Active Beadlock” technology. Additionally, to ensure optimum beadlock force is applied regardless of tyre make, bead or wheel tolerance, all CBR models include a width adjustability feature.
Contrary to some claims that only rubber beadlock systems are acceptable, Runflat CBR is working in conjunction with tyre manufacturers on various projects and the new CBR Active Beadlock concept has been found entirely acceptable.
